Ajay Tyagi Appointed As Chairman Of SEBI


On February 10, Senior Finance Ministry official Ajay Tyagi was appointed as Chairman of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

According to the government’s notification, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Shri Ajay Tyagi, IAS, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, as Chairman of Securities & Exchange Board of India for a period not exceeding 5 years or till the age of 65 years or until further orders, whichever is the earliest."

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Tyagi's appointment. He will be the first Chairman to have been given a 5-year term to start with.

Tyagi currently serves as an Additional Secretary at the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. He will succeed UK Sinha, whose extended tenure ends on March 1.
