Cipla Hires AS Kumar, Former Executive At Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, As Global General Counsel


Recently, Cipla Limited (an Indian multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company, headquartered in Mumbai, India) hired AS Kumar, former executive at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (an Indian multinational pharmaceutical company based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India), as its global general counsel.

Reportedly, after Murali Neelkantan departed in 2015, the post of global general counsel at Cipla was vacant for almost a year.

Kumar has over three decades of legal experience. He is an alumnus of the University of Bangalore and has completed his post-graduation from State University of New York at Buffalo.

Kumar has a path-breaking track record in PSEG-a Fortune 250 US energy major, BTU Ventures (Boston-based 2006 E&Y®US entrepreneur of the year award-winning private equity fund), Glaxosmithkline, Unilever, and the Al-Tamimi law office. Moreover, Kumar has litigated one of the three successful instances of moving the Indian Supreme Court at the Chief Justice’s residence in the Samsung Cup matter, and in 2000, he won $41-million IT-related ICC arbitration.
