Delhi HC Refuses Plea To Restrain AAP From Paying Fee To Lawyer Ram Jethmalani On Behalf Of CM Kejriwal

CM Kejriwal, Ram Jethmalani

On April 17, in a defamation case filed in the Delhi High Court by Union Minister Arun Jaitley against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the court refused to hear a plea filed by Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava to restrain the AAP from paying Rs 1.22 crores to Lawyer Ram Jethmalani as his fee for appearing on behalf of CM Kejriwal.

According to a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Anu Malhotra, the issue raised was already pending before the Lieutenant Governor (LG).

Therefore, the bench said, “If the authorities concerned are not taking any action against the issue raised by you, then only you can move the court. The LG is already seized of the issue. Therefore, there is no need for interference by this court.” It then said that the petition filed is a “waste” of the court’s time.

Subsequently, Advocate Srivastava withdrew his plea.
