Justice Jyotirmay Bhattacharya appointed Acting Chief Justice: Calcutta HC

On October 25, Justice Jyotirmay Bhattacharya will lead as acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court. The notification to that effect has been published by the Ministry of Law and Justice.

He succeeds Acting Chief Justice, Rakesh Tiwari, who will be retiring from office on October 24.

The Hon'ble Mr. Justice Jyotirmay Bhattacharya was born on September 25, 1956, at Village Beliachandi, in the District of 24-Parganas (South). He pursued his college from St. Xavier's College, Calcutta; graduated from the University of Calcutta. Justice Bhattacharya enrolled at the Bar in 1983 and started his practice at the Calcutta High Court. He started practice in the Civil and Writ Jurisdictions of the High Court at Calcutta. He was appointed permanent judge of the High Court in 2003.
