Jyoti Sagar

Jyoti Sagar has been practicing law since 1976. He founded J. Sagar Associates (JSA) in New Delhi in 1991 as a solo practitioner, pioneering new paradigms in the organization and management of law firms in India. He also founded K&S Partners, an intellectual property boutique firm, in 1994. Today, K&S has over 80 professionals and a leading IP practice. Both JSA and K&S have features unique to Indian law firms including a “no family” rule; admittance to Partnership without goodwill buy-in; retirement age for Partners; innovative Partner compensation mechanisms; and a shared vision, mission and core values.

Mr Sagar is the Associate President, Society of Indian Law Firms; and Past President, Asian Patent Attorneys Association (Indian Group); and currently serves as one of the International Vice-Presidents of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association. He is also a member of the American Bar Association; Delhi High Court Bar Association; International Trademark Association; Inter-Pacific Bar Association; and Supreme Court of India Bar Association. He is the Chairman of the Society for Urban Regeneration of Gurgaon (focused on long-term sustainable development issues of Gurgaon, National Capital Region); Trustee of Genesis Foundation (provides critical medical assistance to underprivileged children suffering from congenital heart defects); and supports Deepalaya (engaged in the education of slum children in the National Capital Region). He serves on the Board of Governors of The Scindia School in nGwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

Mr Sagar speaks regularly at international and national conferences and workshops on topics ranging from Corporate and Intellectual Property to infrastructure projects, government policy, foreign investment and the economy. He has done his BA Economics (Honors) from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi (1972) and LLB from the University of Delhi (1975). Over the years, he has received many accolades and recognitions.

For the past five years, he has been consecutively listed as a leading individual in Corporate/M&A and Projects & Energy. Chambers & Partners recognizes him as a “brilliant lawyer and a top bracket corporate law expert” as his peers and clients would agree. The publication goes on to say that he has several years of experience advising foreign and domestic clients on corporate, capital markets and financing transactions.
