Maneck Mulla

Maneck Mulla, Founder and Managing Partner, M. Mulla Associates, is a fourth-generation lawyer having first worked as a Partner in his family firm, Mulla & Mulla & Craigie Blunt & Caroe. Thereafter, he was a Partner with Wakhariya & Wakhariya, Advocates and Solicitors, which was then affiliated with Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, New York. In 2010, he founded the firm M. Mulla Associates, which has grown steadily under his leadership and guidance and today counts Fortune 500 Companies and High Net Worth Individuals amongst its clientele. Mr Mulla has over two decades of experience in the profession. His areas of expertise include Real Estate, Litigation and Arbitration, Commercial Laws and Succession Planning. He advises clients on civil and commercial litigation matters, arbitration, contracts and commercial transactions, trust and personal laws, real estate laws and documentation, development projects, negotiating high-stake deals and various other legal advisories. He has assisted clients across industries not only in complex litigation matters but also high-stake business deals and transactions. In the course of advising clients, he has dealt with several issues relating to land titles, land acquisition, mortgages, leases and development agreements. Over the last several years, he has advised one of the largest multinational FMCG players in its real estate matters in India. Mr Mulla is a well-respected litigation lawyer and has advised and represented clients before High Courts, the Supreme Court of India, and various tribunals, particularly the NCLT and National and State Consumer Dispute Redress Commission, in both commercial matters and constitutional writs. He has advised a number of clients on complex insurance claims. His robust practice involves advising and negotiating various types of commercial contracts. He has advised clients on share purchase and shareholder agreements and complex debt transactions. He has advised clients on the acquisition of master franchise rights of various leading foreign brands in respect of their entry into India. Well, known restaurateurs in Mumbai form part of his clientele. He also regularly advises clients on succession planning, including the drafting of wills, codicils and trust deeds. He regularly advises trustees on the administration of estates. Mr Mulla is a trustee on two Public Charitable Trusts, one of which runs a leading school in the western suburbs of Mumbai. He is also a member of the India Enforcement Committee of the International Cotton Association (Liverpool), an arbitral body concerned with 80 per cent of the world cotton trade. Over the years, he has co-authored a wide range of articles on various topics, including real estate laws, Hindu succession, contract laws, civil procedure etc. In November 2019, he was ranked 2nd and 5th among the top 30 Most Popular Authors globally on Mondaq, with content indexed under Family & Matrimonial and Litigation, Mediation & Arbitration. Mr Mulla completed his LLB from Government Law College, Mumbai, and qualified as a Solicitor of the Bombay Incorporated Law Society in 1999, where he ranked second overall in the examination. His interests include music, agriculture, travel and spending quality time with family.
