Srikrishna Committee formed on July 31, 2017, under the chairmanship of BN Srikrishna was tasked to study various issues relating to data protection and make specific suggestions on the principles to be considered for data protection as well as suggest a draft Data Protection Bill.

In the alert, ELP analyses the debate on data privacy, which is a burning issue in India.

The firm explains in detail the various types of data which needs to be protected and the role of government as ‘Data Controller’. It also proposed various methods of seeking consent and the grounds of processing the personal data even without consent.
