Central government elevates Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey as the Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court

Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey has been elevated by the Central government on 11 October 2022 to be the Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. He was a judge at the Jammu and Kashmir High Court since March 2013.

The decision was taken in the wake of transfer current Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal to the Rajasthan High Court.

His elevation was recommended by the Supreme Court collegium in a meeting headed by Justice of India UU Lalit on September 28.

He enrolled as an advocate in the year 1984 and started practicing law in the district courts, including revenue courts/ tribunals and also in the High Court.
