The leading law firm in India, DSK Legal represented Bollywood actor Mr. Salman Khan in a defamation suit seeking urgent injunctive reliefs against multiple defendants for circulating defamatory and derogatory content across various social media and digital platforms.

Background of the Dispute

Mr. Salman Khan filed the suit seeking injunctive and other reliefs against the Defendants in relation to various defamatory statements and content, comprising defamatory and derogatory remarks allegedly made by Defendant No. 1 (Abhinav Kashyap), Defendant No. 2 (Komal Mehru), and Defendant No. 3 (Khushboo Hazare) against the Plaintiff and his family members.

The defamatory remarks were made during video interviews and podcasts of Defendant No. 1, hosted by Defendant No. 3, and were available in full, part, or clip form on various social media platforms and on the channel titled “Bollywood Thikana”, which is owned by Defendant No. 2 and/or Defendant No. 3.

Digital Platforms Involved

The defamatory content was made available on platforms administered, managed, owned, or operated by Defendant No. 4 (Google LLC), Defendant No. 5 (Meta Platforms, Inc.), and Defendant No. 6 (Reddit, Inc.), including Defendant No. 7 (Ashok Kumar / John Doe).

The Notice of Motion seeking ad-interim reliefs was listed on January 30, 2026 before the Hon’ble Bombay City Civil Court.

Court’s Observations

After hearing the parties, the Hon’ble Court prima facie found the defamatory statements to be defamatory, derogatory, abusive, and insulting in nature, and harmful to the reputation of the Plaintiff.

The Hon’ble Court further observed that the statements lowered the image of the Plaintiff in the eyes of the general public and rejected the arguments advanced on behalf of Defendant No. 1 invoking the right to freedom of speech and expression.

Ad-Interim Injunction Order

Accordingly, the Hon’ble Court was pleased to pass an ad-interim injunction order temporarily restraining Defendant Nos. 1 to 3, along with Defendant No. 7, from making, uploading, posting, reposting, publishing, republishing, hosting, circulating, or recirculating any defamatory or slanderous content, or making any derogatory remarks, statements, posts, messages, videos, interviews, or communications concerning the Plaintiff or his family on any social media or digital platform, until their appearance and filing of replies.

Legal Representation

The Plaintiff was represented by DSK Legal. The team advising on the matter comprised Parag Khandhar (Partner), Chandrima Mitra (Partner), Tapan Radkar, and Zara Dhanbhoora.

The Plaintiff was also represented by P. D. Gandhy, who appeared as External Counsel and assisted the Court with detailed legal submissions during the ad-interim hearing.

Conclusion

The ad-interim injunction passed by the Hon’ble Bombay City Civil Court reinforces the judiciary’s firm stance against the circulation of defamatory content on digital and social media platforms and underscores the importance of protecting an individual’s reputation from unsubstantiated and harmful allegations.
