Dr. S. Muralidhar, the recently retired Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, will practice law before the Supreme Court of India. The Supreme Court designated him as a Senior Advocate on October 16.

The Supreme Court Collegium, presided over by the Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud, decided to designate Dr. S. Muralidhar as a Senior Advocate at a full court meeting on October 16.

Justice Muralidhar also previously served as a judge of the Delhi High Court and the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He was transferred from the Delhi High Court to the Punjab and Haryana High Court shortly after making controversial observations about the Delhi Police's handling of the 2020 Delhi riots.

After he was appointed Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, Justice Muralidhar was eventually recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. However, this recommendation was withdrawn by the Collegium in April of this year after the central government failed to respond. He subsequently retired as Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
