Justice Sunita Agarwal Appointed as the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court

Justice Sunita Agrawal took oath as the 29th Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court. The oath-taking ceremony took place at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar, where Governor Acharya Devvrat administered the oath of office.

The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Speaker of Gujarat Assembly Shankar Chaudhary, and Minister of Law and Justice Rushikesh Patel.

The Supreme Court collegium on 5th July, had proposed the appointment of Justice Agarwal as the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court.

Justice Agarwal born on 30th April, 1996, graduated in law from Awadh University in 1989 and embarked on her journey as an advocate on December 16, 1990.

Over the years, Justice Agarwal built her expertise mainly on the civil side at the Allahabad High Court. She first stepped into the judicial side as an Additional Judge on 21 November, 2011, followed by her elevation as a Permanent Judge on August 6, 2013, at Allahabad High Court.

Justice Agarwal will serve in her new position until her retirement date on 9 April, 2028.

Her appointment marks a significant milestone for Justice Agarwal, as she is currently the only woman Chief Justice of a High Court in the country.
