Supreme Court collegium elevates 17 judicial officers and lawyers as High Court judges

Chief Justice U U Latit - led Supreme Court collegium cleared the names of 17 judicial officers and lawyers for elevation as High Court judges. This decision comes in pursuant to continuing the initiative taken up by his predecessor for filling up judicial vacancies.

Out of 9 names recommended for Punjab and Haryana High Court, five are women judicial officers. Names of judicial officers recommended as judges in the Punjab & Haryana High Court are Gurbir Singh, Deepak Gupta, Amarjot Bhatti, Ritu Tagore, Sukhvinder Kaur, Sanjiv Berry and Vikram Aggarwal.

Advocates Santosh Govindrao Chapalgaonkar and Milind Manohar Sathay were also elevated as judges to the Bombay High Court.

The collegium approved the proposal for appointment of additional judges Mohammed Ghouse Shukure Kamal, Rajendra Badamikar and Khazi Jayabunnisa Mohiuddin as permanent judges in the Karnataka High Court.

Additionally, the collegium has also approved the proposal for elevation of six judicial officers as judges to the Bombay High Court.
