Amitabh Bachchan's 'Jhund' accused of Copyright Infringement
The film 'Jhund' based on the footballer Akhilesh Paul and directed by Sairat's director Nagraj Manjule is accused of copyright infringement. The suit has been filed in the court of Additional District Judge, Ranga Reddy in Miyapur, Telangana.
The petitioner – Nandi Chinni Kumar – a Hyderabad-based independent filmmaker, claims that he has got exclusive rights to make the movie from the footballer.
The story is inspired by the life of Vijay Barse – the founder and coach of the NGO 'Slum Soccer Foundation'. He was also the coach of Akhilesh Paul, who became a slum soccer player. The petitioner has claimed that without Akhilesh Paul, the story of Vijay is not possible and its exclusive rights are with him.
Nandi claims that he bought the rights to make a film on the life of Akhilesh Paul in 2017. Akhilesh was born in a township in Nagpur and was addicted to drugs. He got fascinated with football. On the strength of his hard work and passion, he became the captain of India in the Homeless World Cup.
It may be recalled that the makers of Jhund along with actor Amitabh Bachchan were sent legal notices for copyright infringement last year by the Hyderabad-based filmmaker.
