The Gujarat High Court has been moved by Gujarati singer Kinjal Dave in connection with a case involving copyright issues of her song Char Bangdi Vadi Gadi.
An Ahmedabad commercial court had earlier issued notice to Kinjal after Mumbai-based Red Ribbon Entertainment Private Limited filed a complaint in this connection. The song was an original piece of Melbourne-based Kathiawadi singer, Kartik Patel, the firm claimed.
Kinjal was also restrained from using the song in live shows, concerts, and online downloads by the court. A reply has to be filed by Kinjal in the case by January 22.
In its complaint, Red Ribbon Entertainment said that Patel uploaded the song on YouTube way back on September 29, 2016, and Kinjal's song was a copy of it with minor changes. The company submitted that Kinjal not only used the song but also failed to give any credit to the song’s original creator. She uploaded the song on December 20, 2016, and thereby infringed the copyright on Patel’s song.
