The 2024-25 Annual Report of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has outlined a significant increase in settlement pleas, as it received 703 applications to settle violations.
In 2023-24, it received 434 settlement pleas.
This indicates a trend towards resolving disputes without going through a lengthy litigation process. The market regulator disposed of 284 pleas by passing orders, while 272 applications were returned, rejected, or withdrawn.
For the 284 cases settled, SEBI received Rs.798.87 crores.
The mechanism allows entities to resolve cases by paying a settlement fee and complying with norms.
