All four convicts in the Nirbhaya case will hang at 7 am on January 22, a Delhi court has stated, as it issued a death warrant.
Convicts Akshay Thakur Singh, Mukesh, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma were found guilty in the 2012 gang rape, torture and killing of a young female medical student called ‘Nirbhaya’ in Delhi.
In December 2019, the Supreme Court had dismissed the last review petition in the case, filed by one of the convicts, Akshay Singh.
During the latest hearing, the prosecution told the Delhi court that there is no application pending before any court or the President right now by any of the convicts and the review petition of all convicts has been dismissed by the Supreme Court.
While urging the Delhi court to issue the death warrants, the prosecution stated, “In between issuance and execution of death warrants, if the convicts file curative petitions, they can do so".
Meanwhile, the counsel for two of the convicts – Mukesh and Vinay Sharma – stated that they are in process of filing a curative petition in the Supreme Court.
