The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police has filed a First Information Report (FIR) naming Yash Raj Films Company as well as its directors Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra for allegedly pocketing Rs 100 crore in music royalties meant to be collected exclusively by the Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS).

The complainant IPRS has claimed that it has the exclusive right to collect music royalties on behalf of artistes and music producers, but allegedly YRF collected it despite being unauthorized to do so.

Accordingly, a case has been registered under Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust) and Section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as relevant sections of the Copyright Act.

Earlier, the IPRS filed a complaint against the Bollywood production house with the EOW of the Mumbai police.

The IPRS has alleged that Yash Raj Films did not let them collect royalties from telecom companies, radio stations, and music streaming platforms and instead went on to indulge in unauthorized collection.
