Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) Partner Asim Abbas is set to leave the firm. At CAM, Asim is a Partner in the Technology, Media and Telecom Practice at the Delhi Office.

Asim has over 22 years of experience in the Telecommunication sector, including as a policymaker in Department of Telecommunication, Ministry of Communications, Government of India. He was also involved in important policy formulation like the terms and conditions of various license agreements, interconnection agreements, etc. and interactions with the Telecom Regulator on important policy matters.

Asim has worked as a Civil Servant for 9 years in Department of Telecommunications including as Director (T&C), Ministry of Communications. He resigned from Civil Services in 2000 and thereafter worked for 5 years in two leading law firms of India, for 3 years as Vice President (Legal) at Bharti Airtel Ltd, 3 years as Managing Partner, Legal Spectrums, and 7 years as Partner at Khaitan & Co and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas.

Asim has attended meetings of ITU (Study Group 3) at Geneva, APT meeting at Seoul and ITU Regional Tariff Group of Asia and Oceania countries at Maldives. He was involved in the ITU sponsored study on the settlement rate system. He also attended spectrum management course at Ottawa, Canada.

Asim was also a guest faculty for 2 years at India Law Institute relating to telecom laws and for 3 years on Insurance Laws at FORE School of Management.
