The Delhi High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation that sought deletion of a scene from the upcoming Bollywood film Jayeshbhai Jordaar. The Ranveer Singh starrer will now have a theatrical release, without any deletions, on May 13, as scheduled.

The trailer had landed the film in legal trouble after an NGO, Youth Against Crime moved the high court over the depiction of a prenatal sex-determination scene.

However, the court disposed of the petition without allowing the petitioner's prayer for the deletion of the scene. This was in terms of the statement of Yash Raj Film (YRF) to insert an appropriate disclaimer at the relevant portions of the scene that was the subject matter of the trailer and the petition.

The film's theme is to sensitize the viewers toward an important social message to stop female foeticide. It was, therefore, pivotal to show the social evil to communicate the message. The scene in the film showing an ultrasound being performed on the protagonist's wife was made the subject matter of the PIL.

While the petitioner categorically admitted to the positive cause of 'Save Girl Child' being promoted in the film, it was averred that the scene might mislead the masses into thinking that pre-natal determination of sex was permissible.

Meanwhile, as the Censor Board had already approved the film with the insertion of a disclaimer at the beginning of the film, the court disposed of the petition.

While Senior Advocate Jayant Mehta appeared on behalf of YRF, the TMT Law Practice team led by Managing Partner Abhishek Malhotra, Partner Naomi Chandra, and Senior Associate Sanya Dua also represented YRF.
