Baker McKenzie advised Methanex Corporation on antitrust issues related to its USD 2.05 billion acquisition of OCI Global’s international methanol business, including facilities in Texas and the Netherlands. The deal closed on June 27, 2025.
Baker McKenzie advised Methanex Corporation on acquisition of OCI Global’s Methanol Business
Baker McKenzie advised Methanex Corporation on the antitrust aspects of its acquisition of OCI Global’s international methanol business. The deal was publicly announced on September 8, 2024, and received the final regulatory approval on June 12, 2025, following the expiry of the review period under the US Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Act. The transaction closed on June 27, 2025.
Under the transaction, Methanex acquired OCI’s interest in:
- Two world-scale methanol facilities located in Beaumont, Texas;
- A low-carbon methanol production and marketing business; and
- A currently idled methanol facility in the Netherlands.
The total transaction value was approximately USD 2.05 billion, comprising USD 1.2 billion in cash, newly issued Methanex common shares, and the assumption of debt.
