Superdry plc has enlisted the legal assistance of the DLA Piper team in the sale of their intellectual property (IP) assets in several countries throughout the Asia Pacific (APAC) region to Cowell Fashion Company Ltd for a total of US $50 million.

Cowell, a reputable fashion enterprise listed on the South Korean stock exchange, has initiated a promising partnership with Superdry through this deal. This marks the beginning of a collaborative effort between the two companies, providing ample opportunities for the brand's expansion worldwide while allowing Superdry to concentrate on its core markets outside the APAC region.

The team advising Superdry on this significant IP transaction includes Ryan Harrison, a partner in DLA Piper's Intellectual Property and Technology (IPT) group.

Harrison, who is leading the team, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, citing the involvement of specialised sector experts from both the UK and Asia. He added that the deal will undoubtedly have a profound impact on the future of the beloved British fashion brand.

Julian Dunkerton, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Superdry expressed his excitement about the agreement, stating that it presents an excellent chance for the brand to extend its global presence. He added that the additional funding resulting from the deal would be instrumental in executing their turnaround programme, especially considering the current challenging consumer landscape.

“I’m absolutely thrilled by the opportunity to work together with Cowell to create inspiring products consistent with our brand heritage and build out across the APAC market,” Julian Dunkerton said.

The team from DLA Piper providing counsel to Superdry comprises Ryan Harrison, Satnam Sahota, Charles Cook, and Vicki Hughes, all based in Birmingham, as well as Edward Chatterton and Yui Lin Lee, who are situated in Hong Kong.
