The global law firm, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has advised Vantage Data Centers on its entry into the Johor, Malaysia market through the acquisition of Yondr Group’s hyperscale data center campus, coupled with a $1.6 billion investment to scale its Asia-Pacific operations.
The investment was led by an affiliate of GIC and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), supporting both the acquisition of the hyperscale campus located in Sedenak Tech Park, Johor, and further expansion of Vantage’s APAC platform.
Considered one of Southeast Asia’s largest hyperscale data center campuses, the facility is expected to deliver more than 300 megawatts of IT capacity. The investment reflects surging demand for digital infrastructure across the region, driven by artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
Both GIC and ADIA are existing investors in Vantage Data Centers, which is backed by DigitalBridge. Founded in 2010, Vantage operates hyperscale data center campuses across five continents.
The transaction was led by partners Gabriel Silva and Ian Ho, with support from associate Nelson Siu Yuen Tai (M&A), partner Alvin Kwong, associates Mark Watson and Mounah Abdallah (credit), senior counsel Meredith Jones (tax), and counsel Ron Ben-Yehuda (IP).
