Roop Loomba has been appointed as the Legal Head – India and South Asia at AkzoNobel Powder Coatings India Private Limited, a newly incorporated subsidiary of AkzoNobel.
An alumna of the Department of Law, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Loomba brings over 25 years of extensive experience as an in-house counsel. She has held leadership roles across reputed organisations, including Corporations of the Punjab Government, Castrol, Hindustan Unilever Limited, Philips, Whirlpool, and Rolls Royce. Prior to this appointment, she served as the Legal Head – India and South Asia at AkzoNobel.
In her new role, Loomba will be responsible for establishing and leading the Legal function for AkzoNobel Powder Coatings India from inception. She will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s governance framework and legal architecture, while leading the Legal, Ethics, and Compliance functions, along with Global Business Services (GBS). Her mandate includes ensuring alignment with AkzoNobel’s global standards while delivering pragmatic, locally relevant legal solutions suited to the regulatory and business environment of India and South Asia.
Commenting on her appointment, Loomba said,
“I’m excited to once again get an opportunity in my career to build the Legal function for this new AkzoNobel entity from the ground up, shaping a compliant, agile, and business-enabling Legal, Ethics, and Compliance framework aligned with global standards and local needs.”
Loomba is a generalist lawyer with deep expertise across civil, criminal, commercial, and corporate laws, with specialised knowledge in intellectual property, legal metrology, labour laws, sales tax, and competition law. Her professional experience spans business divestments, mergers and acquisitions, legal integrations, and management of complex, high-value litigation.
She has administered legal operations across the Indian sub-continent, including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. In addition to her corporate career, she has served as a guest faculty on cyber laws and cyber crimes for the Bureau of Police Research and Development under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Loomba has been recognised as one of the Top 100 General Counsels in India and is a recipient of several industry accolades, including the CEO Award for Best Collaboration at Philips.
