Hogan Lovells has announced the expansion of its Corporate & Finance practice group in the US with the arrival of partner Alexis Sainz as the global co-leader of the Space and Satellite practice and a member of the Infrastructure, Energy, Resources & Projects practice.

Sáinz received her law degree from George Washington University Law School. Over the years she has represented satellite operators, aerospace manufactures, launch services services providers, communications companies, financial institutions, project sponsors, private equity firms, hedge funds, export credit and multilateral development agencies and other space industry participants in negotiating commercial and corporate transactions and commercially strategic regulatory matters, and on structured, project and vendor satellite financings. She has expertise in providing advice to satellite industry advice in connection with debt and equity offerings, joint ventures, mergers & acquisitions, and financial restructurings.

Sáinz is also a co-chair for the American Bar Association's Committee on Space Law and co-authored the chapter on Commercial Satellite Programs for the Routledge Handbook of Space Law. She is a member of the International Institute of Space Law (IISL).

Sáinz has held various leadership positions with social justice organizations. She serves on the Hispanic National Bar Association's Commission on Latinas and the Leadership Council for the National LGBTQ Task Force. Sáinz is committed to pro bono and has worked with LatinoJustice, the Whitman Walker Clinic and Tahirih on pro bono matters for Spanish-speaking clients.

Commenting on her new position, Sáinz said: "Hogan Lovells has been a market leader in the commercial space industry for decades. As a result of the firm's vision and early leadership in the space industry, there are few firms with such extensive global satellite experience. The firm has also invested considerable energy into and is a recognized leader in the 'newspace' industry, an emerging multi-billion dollar industry comprising new launch vehicles, commercial human space travel, commercial space stations, space-industry services and 3D printing as an enabling technology, as well as other changes to the set of industrial paradigms that drive the industry. I am excited to be joining the Hogan Lovells team at such a critical moment in the space industry's evolution. I am also thrilled to be working with Hogan Lovell's highly regarded Infrastructure, Energy, Resources & Projects practice. The firm's global strategic corporate and finance capabilities, as well as the unmatched regulatory strength and thought leadership of the Hogan Lovells platform, make it ideally positioned to serve space industry clients across the world."
