COVID19: Supreme Court conducts hearings of urgent matters via video conferencing

The legal fraternity and in fact the entire Nation must congratulate and thank the Supreme Court Judges for conducting hearings via video conferencing in the current nationwide Coronavirus lockdown.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a three-week nationwide lockdown to contain the outbreak of coronavirus, the Supreme Court for the first time in its history, began conducting hearings through video conferencing.

Justice Dhananjaya Chandrachud sat at 11 am to hear 11 urgent matters; Justice L Nageswara Rao & Justice Aniruddha Bose, sat at 1 pm to hear 7 urgent matters. Finally, Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Deepak Gupta heard matters from 3 pm.

The judges heard the cases from their residential offices, while the lawyers argued from their chambers via video conferencing. The apex court had given a link to the lawyers’ to access the video conferencing facility & assured that urgent matters would be taken up. SC Registry is taking all steps necessary to conduct the hearings through remote video conferencing (VC) links.

This is UNPRECEDENTED and HISTORIC! If we are able to take this forward this could bring a paradigm shift in the justice system in India, which is badly clogged across all Courts.
