Chief Justice of India Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud releases Roses without Thorns, a collection of poems by Attorney General for India R. Venkatramani
On 12th January 2024, the Chief Justice of India, Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud, released the book, Roses without Thorns, Reflections of an Immaterial Wanderer, which is a collection of poems by the Attorney General for India, R. Venkatramani, at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The occasion was graced by Justice B. V. Nagarathna, Judge, Supreme Court of India, who shared insights about the book.
The introduction of the book was given by Sri M. Prof. Anisul Rehman, Former Prof. (English) and Academic Administrator, Jamia Millia Islamia also spoke a few words about the book.
Later, the author of the book, R Venkatramani recited a few poems, which was followed by the book launch.
At the Function, the AGI recalled an incident which inspired him into writing the book.
In 1988, the author had visited Baba Amte's ashram where he met an individual who had spent all of his life working for leprosy patients.
The person told the AGI that he would like to grow roses in the garden at the ashram, and he wanted a species of roses which would not have thorns, so that the leprosy patients could easily pluck the flowers with all the compassion that they had.
After this incident, the Attorney General felt that what a noble cause it was and was stuck with the idea of Roses Without Thorns. From there, he drew inspiration and wrote a piece in 1989 and that incident pushed him further into writing which culminated into a series of poems
The author, R Venkatramani, presented the book, Roses Without Thorns, to the Chief Justice of India - a unique and personal touch to the book launch.
Finally, Mementos were presented to the Chief Justice of India, Justice B. V. Nagratna and Sri M acknowledging their presence and contributions to the event.
Finally, a Thanksgiving speech was given by Arvind Venkatramani providing a heartfelt closure to the event, expressing gratitude and wrapping up the book launch on a positive note.
