In order to join finance-to-engineering conglomerate Larsen &Toubro as Group General Counsel, Hemant Kumar, Group General Counsel of the Ruia-controlled Essar Group had resigned.
Mr Kumar, a legal veteran of three decades will manage big-ticket litigation and arbitration and will also advise the group companies on strategic matters, including acquisitions, said a person familiar with the development.
"Mumbai-headquartered L&T has roped in Hemant Kumar to streamline the legal processes, keeping in mind the current complex regulatory environment". "The role is more to do with advising the senior management on strategic issues, and not just restricted to legal issues,"
As per an email statement by Essar Group, "Mr Kumar confirmed the development but refused to share details about his new assignment. He (Kumar) also determined to pursue his professional career elsewhere and move on".
