Sandeep Chowdhury is the Sr. Vice President & Group General Counsel at Suzlon. He has joined from HCC where he was serving as their Sr. Vice President and Group General Counsel.

Sandeep is seasoned legal professional having a unique experience of working with Solicitors Firm, Service Industry, Retail/FMCG, Pharmaceutical, Agro-chemical Industry. He has worked with US MNCs and Fortune 100 companies at senior levels specialising on litigation, advisory, M&As, anti-trust/competition laws, taxation, labour, IP laws, FCPA compliance and investigations. He has supervised team of lawyers, worked with renowned law firms and accountable for the legal budget.

In his role as General Counsel at Suzlon, Sandeep is responsible for providing strategic legal leadership on Legal function to management, setting up strong internal governance policies and stakeholder engagement, ensuring areas of risk and building a high standard of legal compliance across the businesses of the Suzlon group. His insights and leadership play a pivotal role in shaping Suzlon’s Legal practices and compliances.

Some of his key areas of expertise include corporate and commercial contracts, joint ventures, arbitration, litigation, competition law, employment, securities law, compliance, GDR listings (at SGX and Luxembourg), corporate governance, re-structuring etc. Mr. Chowdhury is a rank holder Law graduate from the University of Calcutta and had done leadership courses from Harvard Business School and Walton Institute.

He started his career with the eminent lawfirm M/s Khaitan & Co. specialising on taxation, litigation and a civil advisory matters. His inclination to general corporate legal work made him move to the corporate world wherein he has worked at senior levels in various organisations like Walmart, Coca Cola, Baxter, UPL, Lafarge India, OLA, HCC Ltd., both in India and abroad.

He has managed legal, compliance, regulatory and risk management portfolios with teams spread across various jurisdictions. Mr. Chowdhury believes in integrity and personal ethics and has rich experience on US FCPA, having conducted various training and investigations in the matter. He has handled numerous foreign litigations including the Private interest ones in US and Australia.

He has worked on mergers and acquisitions on Global level. He drove the culture of integrity, accountability and compliance in various organisation by introducing certain initiatives. He had supervised teams comprising of members from different countries and had, inter alia, helped business in devising high level strategies and procedures to protect and safeguard the interest of the organisation. He is also a prominent speaker in various legal and compliance forums.

Mr. Chowdhury has travelled widely for business purposes to countries like China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, France, Brazil, Australia, and United States.
