
V. Lakshmikumaran is the Founder and Managing Partner at Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorneys. Mr. Lakshmikumaran has been acknowledged for his contribution and thought leadership widely and has been bestowed with several recognitions, such as the Legal 500 Hall of Fame, the Indian Business Law Journal Elite Category A List Top 100 Indian lawyers, Elite Practitioner and Market Leading Lawyer (Tax) by Asia Law, Band 1 Tax lawyer by Chambers & Partners, to name a few.
His deep understanding of technological issues that impact taxation as well as his expertise in classification of goods under HSN are highly recognized. He has played a pivotal role in the development of jurisprudence relating to customs and excise laws in India.
Mr. Lakshmikumaran has been recently appointed as a Distinguished Fellow in NITI Aayog. In this very senior position, he advises the Government of India and initiates a number of policy initiatives in the field of economic laws, trade, and investment, etc. Additionally, he is also advising the Indian Ministry of Commerce as Advisor and participating in various FTA negotiations, WTO negotiations and other legislations initiated by the Ministry.
Prior to starting LKS, Mr. Lakshmikumaran was part of the Indian Revenue Service, instrumenting certain key tax policies of the Indian government. An LLB and an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Madras, Mr. Lakshmikumaran has interests in technology, international trade, economics, accounting, and their intersection with the law.

Mr. Lakshmikumaran has over 35 years of experience in matters of taxation, international trade, intellectual property, commercial disputes, and environmental law. A powerful litigator and an expert in indirect tax, Mr. Lakshmikumaran has represented several cases in the Supreme Court and various High Courts of India, many of which have led to landmark judgements. He has also represented clients across geographies and jurisdictions including the European Union, the USA, Australia, and Canada. He has also argued at the WTO before the Dispute Settlement and Appellate Body in trade remedy cases
