DSK Legal Represents Aditya Dhar to Restrain Defamatory Remarks on Social Media
The leading law firm in India, DSK Legal acted on behalf of Aditya Dhar in urgent proceedings before the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, seeking injunctive relief against defamatory statements made by Defendant No. 1 during a recorded press meet and published on multiple social media platforms. The Firm successfully obtained an interim order restraining the Defendants from repeating allegations that were defamatory to the Plaintiff, highlighting DSK Legal’s expertise in media, technology, and defamation law.
Background of the Case
Mr. Aditya Dhar filed a suit seeking injunctive and other reliefs against the Defendants in relation to various defamatory, false, and derogatory remarks made by Defendant No. 1 (Santosh Kumar) during a recorded press meet (“said Press Meet”), which were published by Defendant No. 2 on the social media platform ‘YouTube’.
Publication on Multiple Platforms
The clips and extracts of the Press Meet have been circulated across various mediums, including social media platforms managed or operated by Defendant Nos. 3 (Google LLC), 4 (Meta Platforms, Inc.), 5 (Reddit, Inc.), 6 (“X”), and Defendant No. 7 (Ashok Kumar / John Doe).
Interim Relief Granted
During the urgent hearing before Justice Mr. Arif S. Doctor, the Plaintiff’s Counsel took the Hon’ble Court through the transcript of the said Press Meet and pointed out the parts which were defamatory to the Plaintiff’s reputation, such as allegations of stealing and theft and other related statements made by Defendant No. 1 equating the alleged act of stealing with murder. The Hon’ble Court, having gone through the transcript and the facts of the matter, was pleased to restrain Defendant No. 1 from calling the Plaintiff a thief (‘chor’) or making allegations of a similar nature, including that of theft, until the next date of hearing.
