Justice Vineet Kothari becomes Gujarat High Court Acting Chief Justice till Sep 2, Justice RM Chhaya to take over thereafter
The appointment of Justice Vineet Kothari as Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court until his retirement on September 2, 2021 has been notified by the Central government. The development comes after the recent elevation of Chief Justice Vikram Nath to the Supreme Court of India. Justice Vikram Nath bid farewell to the Gujarat High Court and is scheduled to assume office as SC judge next week.
The senior-most judge of the Gujarat High Court, Justice Vineet Kothari, has now been appointed by the President to perform the duties of Chief Justice with effect from the date on which Chief Justice Nath relinquishes office. With Justice Kothari reaching superannuation on September 2, the President has further appointed the next senior-most High Court Judge, Justice RS Chhaya as Acting Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court from September 2, 2021.
