ADNA Advised Lenders On Casablanca Desalination Project, A Groundbreaking SWRO PPP Powered By Renewable Energy
ADNA Advised Lenders on Casablanca Desalination Project, a Groundbreaking SWRO PPP Powered by Renewable Energy
ADNA advised Bank of Africa, BCP Banque Centrale Populaire, Attijariwafa Bank, Société Générale CIB, and FIEM/ICO Instituto de Crédito Oficial on the Casablanca Desalination Project, a pioneering seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) public-private partnership (PPP) initiative in Morocco. This transformative project is powered entirely by renewable wind energy and features a fully integrated water transportation system. It marks a significant step forward in enhancing Morocco’s water security, directly supporting Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) on clean water and sanitation.
The project is expected to supply drinking water and irrigation to over 7.5 million people in the Casablanca-Settat region. It represents the first in a series of sustainable infrastructure initiatives aimed at climate resilience and long-term water access in the country. The sponsor consortium was led by ACCIONA and Green of Africa (Akwa Group).
The ADNA team was led by Safia Fassi Fihri (Partner), supported by Youssef Benamar (Partner), Ghita Bennis (Counsel), Salimata Sow (Associate), and Laila Boujida (Associate). White & Case LLP advised as international counsel.
