Baker McKenzie Advised Swyftx On Its Acquisition Of Caleb & Brown
Baker McKenzie advised Swyftx, the cryptocurrency exchange, on its acquisition of the boutique digital assets brokerage, Caleb & Brown. This marks the largest recorded digital assets M&A transaction in Australia and New Zealand, subject to certain regulatory approvals. The deal is expected to provide Swyftx with enhanced access to the US market, complementing its global expansion strategy. Founded in 2018, Swyftx currently has more than 1.2 million customers.
Robert Wright, Lead Partner, commented, “We are excited to have had the opportunity to support Swyftx on this important transaction, reflecting increasing institutional interest and a move towards further consolidation across the digital assets sector. We look forward to seeing the continued growth of the Swyftx platform following this strategic transaction. This transaction leverages Baker McKenzie’s cross-border M&A transactional capabilities across Asia Pacific and North America, alongside our deep market regulatory expertise in the emerging digital assets sector.”
Vi Ky Lam said, “Coordinating across multiple workstreams was crucial, and our cross-border team worked seamlessly, utilizing their expertise to navigate these challenges. This deal underscores our Firm's ability to handle complex transactions with precision and dedication.”
The Baker McKenzie team was led by Robert Wright (Partner, Hong Kong), Vi Ky Lam (Counsel, Sydney), and Peter Keeran (Associate, Melbourne), and supported by Lance Sacks (Partner, Sydney), Michelle Heisner (Partner, New York), Karl Egbert (Partner, New York), Terence Gilroy (Partner, New York), Bill Fuggle (Partner, Sydney), Trudi Procter (Partner, Brisbane), and Caitlin Whale (Partner, Sydney).
