DLA Piper Africa, Nigeria Advised Mainstream Energy Solutions On Kainji Hydropower Plant Switchyard Expansion
DLA Piper Africa, Nigeria advised Mainstream Energy Solutions on Kainji Hydropower Plant Switchyard Expansion
The global law firm, DLA Piper Africa – Nigeria (Olajide Oyewole LLP), is pleased to have advised Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, Nigeria’s leading hydropower producer, on the successful closing of transaction documents for the expansion of the 330kV outdoor switchyard at the Kainji Hydropower Plant. The expansion provides dedicated connection bays for the Kainji 1G3 and 1G4 turbine units, enabling efficient evacuation of power to the national grid.
This milestone builds on prior advisory to Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited in 2021, when the firm supported the installation of the 1G3 and 1G4 turbine units, increasing the plant’s installed capacity from 760 MW to 960 MW. The switchyard expansion now removes transmission constraints, ensuring that the newly added renewable generation capacity can be reliably delivered to consumers.
DLA Piper Africa – Nigeria (Olajide Oyewole LLP) team advised on the full suite of project contracts, covering design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of all equipment and systems. This ensured seamless integration with existing infrastructure while safeguarding operational continuity. The project represents a critical step in strengthening Nigeria’s transmission capacity, enhancing grid stability, and reinforcing the role of renewable energy in the country’s evolving power landscape.
DLA Piper Africa – Nigeria (Olajide Oyewole LLP) congratulates Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited on the successful completion of this strategic project.
The DLA Piper Africa – Nigeria (Olajide Oyewole LLP) team was led by Solape Peters, ACIS (Partner), with Oluwatomi Etomi (Legal Director), Ayobami Elias (Associate), and Kanyinsola Taiwo (Associate).
