Linklaters Advised BSTOR On Launch Of ESTOR-LUX II Battery Energy Storage Park In Belgium

Linklaters advised BSTOR on launch of ESTOR-LUX II battery energy storage park in Belgium
Linklaters has advised BSTOR on the financing of ESTOR-LUX II, a new large-scale battery energy storage project with a capacity of 270 MWh, located in the industrial zone of Aubange, Belgium. This project marks a significant milestone in Belgium’s electricity storage infrastructure and energy transition efforts.
The ESTOR-LUX II park offers a connection power of 100 MW and surpasses previous projects by more than tenfold in storage capacity compared to ESTOR-LUX I. With construction underway, the park is scheduled for commissioning in autumn 2026. Eneco, an energy supplier, will manage the valorisation and distribution of the park’s flexible capacity across various markets.
The project, representing a total investment of €124 million, is primarily financed by non-recourse debt provided by KBC, Belfius, and Triodos Bank, covering 65% of the budget, with the remaining balance funded by equity investment.
The Linklaters team advising on the transaction was led by Laurens Cools (Counsel, Brussels), with support from Kélian Rask and Coralie Mencik.
