Nishimura & Asahi Advised JERA Co., Inc. On Low-Carbon Ammonia Offtake Arrangements In $4 Billion U.S. Project With CF Industries And Mitsui

Nishimura & Asahi advised JERA Co., Inc. on low-carbon ammonia offtake arrangements in $4 billion U.S. project with CF Industries and Mitsui
Nishimura & Asahi advised JERA Co., Inc. on the offtake arrangements for the low-carbon ammonia production project, “Blue Point”, located in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, USA. JERA is a partner in the project alongside CF Industries Holdings, Inc. and Mitsui & Co., Ltd.
The Blue Point project will establish the world’s largest ammonia production facility, with an annual capacity of approximately 1.4 million tons. The ammonia will be produced using natural gas with integrated carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology to minimize emissions. With a total investment of approximately USD 4 billion (around JPY 600 billion), JERA will contribute 35% of the project investment and will offtake a portion of the low-carbon ammonia for supply to markets in Europe, Asia, and other regions. Production is expected to commence in 2029.
The Nishimura & Asahi team was led by Alexander Woody (Partner) and included Hiroyasu Konno (Partner), Misato Fukushima (Counsel), and Scott Alper and Shizuka Muramoto (Associates).
