Herbert Smith Freehills Acted in Oman’s Landmark Manah I Solar PV Plant Deal
Herbert Smith Freehills Acted in Oman’s Landmark Manah I Solar PV Plant Deal
Herbert Smith Freehills provided legal counsel to EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power Co Ltd in connection with the 500 MW Manah I Solar PV Plant project in Oman.
The project involves the development of a 500 MW Solar Power Plant along with its associated facilities in the Ad Dakhiliyah region of the Sultanate of Oman. Wadi Noor Solar Power Company, established as a collaborative effort between EDF Renewables Middle East and Korea Western Power Co Ltd (KOWEPO), is spearheading this significant project.
Upon achieving full operational status in 2025, the Manah I Solar PV Plant project is poised to make a substantial contribution to Oman's sustainable future. The project's impact will be evident through the avoidance of over 700 thousand tons of CO2 emissions annually. Notably, the financial close for the project was successfully concluded on December 25, 2023.
"We are delighted to have advised on this project, which constitutes a key part of Oman's energy transition plans, and to continue developing our relationships with EDF Renewables and KOWEPO," the firm’s Middle East partner Phil Hanson stated.
Dubai-based partner Phil Hanson spearheaded the Herbert Smith Freehills deal team, receiving support from senior associates Adel Shageev and Charles Oliver, as well as associates Maria Zerkalova, Rohy Alsaad, Umu Wurie, and Yulia Turkina, along with trainee Donati Llapashtica. Partner Nick May, of counsel Nick Rutter, and associate Konstantin Korennoy played pivotal roles in advising on the hedging aspects of the transaction. Additionally, partner Michaël Armandou and avocat Félix Laval-Sébire provided valuable support on matters related to French law.
