The Gowling WLG Construction Team advisd Marylebone Cricket Club on redevelopment of the historic Allen Stand at Lord's
The Gowling WlG Construction Team have advised Marylebone Cricket Club in relation to the redevelopment of the historic Allen Stand at Lord's Cricket Ground which has now begun.
The works will increase the stand's capacity by 190 to 806 seats whilst recreating the distinct presence of the current stand. As well as continuing the Club's reputation for architectural excellence the project incorporates a range of sustainability initiatives which will play a key role in meeting their objectives of Net Zero Carbon for scopes 1 and 2 by 2030 and scope 3 by 2040.
Construction commenced following the last international of the 2025 season. The works allow for seating with temporary facilities to be made available for the summer 2026 season with full completion expected winter 2026/27, ready for the new Allen Stand to be in full use for the Ashes series in 2027.
Ian Sheppard said, "This is a landmark project at Lord's, the iconic Home of Cricket. We've thoroughly enjoyed working as part of the client's team to help facilitate this exciting development and look forward to assisting the Club in bringing their impressive plans to life."
Robert Ebdon, (Estates Director) at MCC said, “MCC very much appreciated the industry-wide knowledge of construction law which Gowlings were able to bring to the drafting of MCC’s building contract and consultant appointments, reflecting the complexities of development at Lord’s but also in the achievement of a fair and balanced contract.”
The Gowling WLG team was led by advised Club on the construction documentation that will facilitate the redevelopment and was led by Ian Sheppard (Legal Director), and Richard Green (Partner), with support from Alexandra Oxborrow (Senior Associate).
