Addleshaw Goddard Welcomes Nils Vanhassel as Partner and Head of Tax Middle East
The major international law firm Addleshaw Goddard Middle East is pleased to announce the appointment of Nils Vanhassel as Partner and Head of Tax Middle East, based in Dubai. Nilsโ arrival marks a significant step in the continued growth of the firmโs Middle East offering, enhancing its ability to support clients on complex cross-border transactions and evolving regulatory frameworks.
With extensive experience advising multinational corporates, regional businesses, and government-related entities, Nils will play a key role in developing the Tax & Structuring practice across the region.
Nils said,
I am proud to be joining ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ก๐๐ฐ ๐๐จ๐๐๐๐ซ๐ as Partner and Head of Tax Middle East. AG is a truly international firm with a strong and well-established presence across the Gulf, and I am excited to be joining a platform that is so well positioned to support clients across the region on their most important opportunities and challenges. The Gulfโs tax landscape has evolved rapidly in recent years and continues to mature at pace. As tax becomes increasingly central to business decision-making, transactions and operating models, there is a growing need for law firms to build strong tax capability that works seamlessly alongside corporate, finance, restructuring, employment, disputes and regulatory advice. Clients increasingly need practical, joined-up legal advice that brings together tax regulations, tax structuring and M&A execution. That makes this an especially interesting and exciting time to be joining AG. I have also been hugely grateful for the warm welcome I have received from colleagues across the firm over the past few days. These are, of course, difficult and uncertain times for the Gulf region, but like so many of our clients and colleagues, I remain hopeful about the future and confident in the regionโs resilience. Thank you to everyone who has already reached out so warmly. I look forward to working together.
Experience
Nils Vanhassel brings extensive experience in international tax advisory, controversy, and structuring. He currently serves as Partner and Head of Tax Middle East at Addleshaw Goddard and is a Member of the International Fiscal Association. In addition, he co-founded Next Level Games and Level Up Gent, offering innovative entertainment and team-building experiences. Previously, he worked at DLA Piper as Legal Director and Senior Associate, Aurifer Middle East Tax in various roles, Tiberghien Lawyers, and PwC Belgium, advising corporates, financial institutions, and private clients on complex cross-border tax and regulatory matters.
Education
Nils holds a Postgraduate degree in Tax Law from Fiscale Hogeschool Brussel, a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Tax, Corporate & Financial Law from Ghent University, and completed his schooling in Greek-Mathematics at Sint-Lodewijkscollege Brugge, where he was also a member of the basketball team. His academic foundation, combined with extensive practical experience, enables him to provide comprehensive advice in tax structuring, litigation, and corporate planning across multiple jurisdictions.
Nils Vanhasselโs appointment strengthens Addleshaw Goddardโs Middle East presence, reinforcing its ability to deliver high-quality, integrated tax and corporate advice across the region.
