Anderson Mori & Tomotsune Promotes Kanji Harada, Tomoki Shimabara, And Yosuke N. Nishiyama To Partner
Anderson Mori & Tomotsune promotes Kanji Harada, Tomoki Shimabara, and Yosuke N. Nishiyama to Partner
The premier full-service global law firm, Anderson Mori & Tomotsune is delighted to announce the promotion of Kanji Harada, Tomoki Shimabara, and Yosuke N. Nishiyama to Partner, recognising their exceptional expertise and leadership across corporate, M&A, capital markets, and cross-border transactions.
Kanji Harada – Partner: Kanji advises on a broad range of corporate law matters, with a focus on securities offerings and financial regulatory compliance across domestic and international capital markets. Beyond traditional equity and debt instruments, he supports clients in the design and implementation of innovative products, including preferred shares and other hybrid instruments, helping issuers and financial institutions structure solutions that are both commercially effective and legally robust. Kanji’s practice is distinctive for connecting black-letter law with market logic, drawing on the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, the Companies Act, and corporate finance principles to bring an investor-aware approach to transactions and regulatory strategy. He is admitted in Japan and New York, is a CFA charterholder, and brings global perspective from an LL.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law and experience at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett (New York). Kanji’s leadership is expected to continue shaping sophisticated, future-facing capital markets work at the firm.
Tomoki Shimabara – Partner: Tomoki advises clients on a wide range of corporate and M&A matters, including joint ventures, private equity/funds, public M&A, business succession M&A, corporate and commercial transactions, and corporate governance support. His deal-side perspective is strengthened by a secondment to the M&A department of a major Japanese investment bank, giving him a practical understanding of transaction dynamics, timelines, and stakeholder coordination—an edge critical when execution speed and certainty are essential. Tomoki also brings a strong international outlook, supported by an LL.M. (Business Law Track) from UCLA and experience at MinterEllison (Sydney). He is qualified in Japan and New York, providing cross-border expertise for high-impact transactions.
Yosuke N. Nishiyama – Partner: Yosuke advises across a wide spectrum of cross-border transactions, regularly supporting international clients on M&A, joint ventures, cross-border investments, and corporate restructurings. His work spans sectors including technology, energy, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, aerospace, automotive, and life sciences. He brings deep strength in global regulatory compliance, covering data protection and privacy, telecommunications, foreign direct investment (FDI), financial services, consumer protection, and employment matters, and is highly experienced in data breach response and cross-border investigations, providing practical crisis management when timelines and reputations are on the line. Yosuke holds an LL.M. from the University of Chicago Law School, has professional experience in Mexico (including Basham, Ringe y Correa, S.C.), and is proficient in Japanese, English, and Spanish, enabling him to bridge business, culture, and regulatory environments across multiple jurisdictions.
These promotions highlight Anderson Mori & Tomotsune’s commitment to nurturing top legal talent and strengthening its capabilities across capital markets, M&A, corporate governance, and cross-border advisory services. Please join us in congratulating Kanji Harada, Tomoki Shimabara, and Yosuke N. Nishiyama on these well-deserved milestones.
Anderson Mori & Tomotsune (AMT) is one of the "Big Four" law firms in Japan, known for its extensive history and full-service global presence.
