Ernest Maboko Returns to Bowmans as Partner in Commercial Property Practice
The leading African law firm with a presence in six countries, Bowmans, has welcomed back commercial property expert Ernest Maboko, appointing him as a Partner in its Johannesburg Commercial Property Practice. Maboko brings rare and highly sought-after expertise, having served as Senior Legal Counsel at a leading South African financial institution, with deep experience in commercial property finance and broader real estate matters.
Chairman and Senior Partner, Ezra Davids, said,
Maboko, who began his legal career at Bowmans and rose to Senior Associate before departing in 2022, officially returned on 1 October 2025 after nearly three years with Absa Corporate and Investment Bank’s commercial property finance team. An admitted attorney, notary, and conveyancer, Maboko’s broad expertise spans secured lending, syndicated and bilateral finance, acquisitions and disposals, refinancing and restructuring, bespoke development finance, and complex conveyancing across residential, sectional title and commercial properties. He holds an LLB (cum laude) from Unisa.
Before his legal career, Maboko qualified in medical, surgical, emergency, community, and psychiatric nursing, working as a registered nurse across multiple Johannesburg hospitals — a unique foundation for a legal professional.
