Gowling WLG Expands Into Saudi Arabia Through Joint Venture With AlGhazzawi & Partners
Gowling WLG Expands into Saudi Arabia Through Joint Venture with AlGhazzawi & Partners
The global law firm Gowling WLG has announced its expansion into Saudi Arabia with the opening of a new office in Riyadh, established through a joint venture with Talal Al Ghazzawi and a continuation of its longstanding association with AlGhazzawi & Partners. This strategic move strengthens the firm’s commitment to delivering comprehensive legal services across the Middle East.
The Riyadh office will offer a full suite of legal services, with an initial focus on Intellectual Property, Technology, and Energy & Infrastructure, building on Gowling WLG’s strong regional expertise. This development underscores the firm’s goal to meet the increasing demand for high-quality legal services in Saudi Arabia and to support the Kingdom’s economic transformation.
Commenting on the launch, David Fennell, CEO of Gowling WLG (UK) LLP, said, “This milestone marks an essential step in the growth of our international platform. By expanding our presence in Saudi Arabia, we reinforce our commitment to delivering exceptional value and innovative solutions to clients worldwide.”
Tim Casben, Partner and Head of Middle East at Gowling WLG, added, “The new office reflects our clients’ growing needs and represents a significant opportunity for growth and collaboration. We are honoured to partner with such a prestigious firm and look forward to contributing to the region’s ongoing success.”
The joint venture will be led by Bachir Chakra and Imran Mufti, combining Gowling WLG’s international capabilities with AlGhazzawi & Partners’ deep local expertise.
Dr. Belal Talal Ghazzawi, Senior Managing Partner at AlGhazzawi & Partners, said, “Our relationship with Gowling WLG has gone from strength to strength. This new venture is a natural step forward in supporting clients to navigate the global marketplace together.”
Hussam Talal Ghazzawi, Managing Partner at AlGhazzawi & Partners, added that the joint venture represents “a culmination of collaborative efforts that will enhance service delivery and attract local legal talent.”
Founded in 1968 by Dr. Talal Amin Al-Ghazzawi, AlGhazzawi & Partners is one of Saudi Arabia’s leading full-service law firms, with offices in Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam.
The establishment of this new office further solidifies the relationship between Gowling WLG and AlGhazzawi & Partners, following their cooperation agreement in 2021. Over the past four years, both firms have jointly advised clients across sectors including government advisory, technology, IP, corporate and M&A, energy and infrastructure, mining, project finance, construction disputes, and international arbitration.
The office will be supported by Gowling WLG’s regional leadership, including Tim Casben, Jonathan Brufal (Co-head, Energy & Infrastructure), Alex Brazeau (Co-head, Technology), and Jon Parker (Head, IP Practice).
