Halim Hong & Quek Welcomes Kumar Kanagasabai as Senior Partner and Practice Head
The leading Malaysian law firm, Halim Hong & Quek, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kumar Kanagasabai as Senior Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution.
Kumar Kanagasabai brings over 30 years of extensive experience in corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration, with specialisation in maritime and shipping law, fraud and asset recovery, employment, and general commercial disputes. Throughout his career, he has acted in complex, high-value disputes, including some of the largest fraud recovery actions globally, earning recognition for his pragmatic and solutions-oriented approach.
His expertise spans maritime-related disputes such as ship arrests, charterparty disputes, oil pollution claims, vessel detentions, cargo claims, commodity contracts, and enforcement of ship mortgages under conventional and Islamic finance frameworks. In addition, Kumar has a robust arbitration practice, acting as both counsel and arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations, managing interim measures in support of foreign-seated arbitrations, and addressing challenges to arbitral awards in Malaysian courts.
Kumar has also led landmark employment-related disputes and investigations and is a regular contributor to legal publications and conferences. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, reflecting his deep commitment to dispute resolution and professional excellence.
Kumar’s arrival marks an important step forward as we continue to build a robust, multi-disciplinary Dispute Resolution team. His leadership, mentorship, and strategic judgment will strengthen our ability to support clients through their most critical disputes.
With Kumar Kanagasabai at the helm of the Dispute Resolution practice, Halim Hong & Quek reinforces its commitment to delivering high-quality legal services across complex commercial and regulatory matters in Malaysia and beyond.
Halim Hong & Quek (HHQ) is a prominent Malaysian law firm established in 2000, known for deep local expertise, particularly in Real Estate, Corporate M&A, FinTech, and Dispute Resolution, and became a member firm of Andersen Global in 2023, integrating global reach with local strength for multidisciplinary legal and tax services.
