Janney Chong Joins K&L Gates As Partner To Bolster Capital Markets Practice In Hong Kong
Janney Chong Joins K&L Gates As Partner To Bolster Capital Markets Practice In Hong Kong
K&L Gates LLP welcomes Janney Chong as a partner in its Hong Kong office. She joins the firm’s Corporate practice from Robertsons.
Chong is a seasoned capital markets lawyer with more than two decades of experience. Her practice covers a broad spectrum of equity capital markets and general corporate matters, including initial public offerings, secondary offerings, debt offerings, mergers and acquisitions, public takeovers, and regulatory advice.
Chong’s experience includes representing issuers and underwriters of listings on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx) and advising companies listed on the HKEx, Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE), and Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) on transactional and compliance matters. She has substantial experience advising on Hong Kong IPOs.
Dual-qualified in Hong Kong and England and Wales, Chong has also passed the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Legal Professional Examination. She is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
Corporate Counsel Sophie Chu and Associate Jessica Choi, who joined the firm earlier this year, will support Chong.
Vincent Tso, managing partner of K&L Gates’ Hong Kong office said: “We’re excited to welcome Janney to the firm and to expand our capital markets offerings in the Greater Bay Area. Her experience and network will enhance our current capabilities and meet clients’ growing regional fundraising needs. The arrival of Janney, Sophie, and Jessica demonstrates our firm’s strong commitment to Asia and the Greater China Region.”
“Hong Kong remains an important market for the firm’s regional and global strategy,” said Ryan Dwyer, regional managing partner, Asia. “We are delighted to welcome Janney and the team, whose skills complement and enhance our regional corporate practice.”
“Janney and the team are great additions to our regional Corporate practice, which we have continued to expand across Asia and Australia over the last year,” said Chris Nikou, Corporate practice area leader. “While markets are currently volatile, Hong Kong was one of the world’s largest IPO markets in 2024 and trading has been very active so far this year. Major capital market deals remain in the pipeline, and with Janney and her team supported by our global platform, we are well positioned to help clients pursue their fundraising goals across the Greater China Region and in other key markets globally.”
