Quinn Emanuel Hires Ghalib Mahmoud As Partner In The UAE
Quinn Emanuel hires Ghalib Mahmoud as Partner in the UAE
The global law firm, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan UK LLP has announced that Ghalib Mahmoud has joined the firm as a Partner, further strengthening its disputes practice in the Middle East. He officially joined the firm on 19 January and will be based out of Quinn Emanuel’s Dubai and Abu Dhabi offices.
Ghalib Mahmoud joins Quinn Emanuel from Hadef & Partners, where he was a prominent partner in the firm’s International Dispute Resolution practice. During his tenure, he led the Healthcare & Life Sciences sector and co-led the Restructuring & Insolvency team, playing a central role in establishing one of the most successful restructuring and insolvency practices in the UAE. He is widely recognised as one of the top disputes lawyers in the UAE, advising clients both regionally and internationally.
His practice focuses on restructuring and bankruptcy, corporate fraud investigations, asset tracing, and complex civil and commercial litigation for multinational corporations and high-net-worth individuals. Ghalib Mahmoud holds full rights of audience before the DIFC Courts and regularly appears before the ADGM Courts, as well as UAE onshore courts across the Emirates and at appellate levels. He has been instrumental in developing several groundbreaking legal precedents in the UAE using innovative litigation strategies.
Ghalib Mahmoud is fluent in Arabic and English and is licensed to practice law in the UAE, as well as in New Jersey, New York, the District of Columbia, and England and Wales. His notable representations include advising the KBBO Group and its subsidiaries in a landmark restructuring before the Abu Dhabi courts following the collapse of NMC Health, defending global healthcare companies in government investigations and regulatory proceedings across the Middle East, and representing clients in arbitrations, including the enforcement of foreign awards and judgments in the UAE.
Commenting on his appointment, Ghalib Mahmoud said,
"Quinn Emanuel is a firm that embodies strength, tenacity and power. After working across the table from Quinn Emanuel for several years, I felt aligned with like-minded litigators. When the firm opened in the UAE, it became clear that the paradigm for disputes in the region had shifted. This is an opportunity I could not refuse, and I am honoured to join such an exceptional team serving clients across the UAE, the region, and globally."
Richard East, London Senior Partner at Quinn Emanuel, said,
"Several of our partners witnessed Ghalib’s impressive negotiating skills first-hand during the NMC bankruptcy matter. His arrival allows us, for the first time, to offer services across both onshore and offshore courts in the UAE."
John B. Quinn, Founder and Chairman of Quinn Emanuel, said,
"The UAE is a major strategic focus for our firm, and partners of Ghalib’s calibre rarely come onto the market. His hire marks a significant moment for our regional disputes practice."
Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan UK LLP is the London arm of the global law firm Quinn Emanuel, renowned as the world's largest firm focused solely on business litigation and arbitration. It is known for its aggressive, trial-focused approach and high-stakes wins in complex commercial disputes, including significant international arbitration, public international law, and anti-trust matters, representing major corporations and states globally.
