Torsten Volkholz Joins Eversheds Sutherland As A Partner In Germany, Enhancing The Firm’s Corporate Finance And Real Estate Practice Across Europe.

Torsten Volkholz joins Eversheds Sutherland as a Partner in Germany, enhancing the firm’s Corporate Finance and Real Estate practice across Europe.
Global law firm Eversheds Sutherland has announced the appointment of Torsten Volkholz as a Partner in its Corporate Finance group. The strategic hire strengthens the firm’s pan-European capabilities and deepens its focus on private equity clients, particularly in the real estate sector.
Volkholz joins from Latham & Watkins LLP and will be based across Frankfurt and Hamburg. With almost 20 years of experience, he advises sponsors, borrowers, and lenders on a range of domestic and cross-border finance, real estate, and restructuring matters across the energy, infrastructure, and financial services sectors.
He is widely recognised for his deep sector expertise and client-first approach, particularly in cross-border real estate finance. He is ranked by leading legal directories such as Legal 500, Chambers and Partners, JUVE, and IFLR. In the latest Chambers edition, he is described as “a commercial lawyer who is always available and clear in his feedback” and “an attorney who is very client-focused.”
Volkholz’s hire aligns with Eversheds Sutherland’s ongoing strategy to enhance its real estate finance offerings across key European jurisdictions, closely collaborating with teams in London and throughout Europe.
Alexander Niethammer, European Managing Partner and Managing Partner Germany, Eversheds Sutherland, said,
"Torsten’s arrival personifies several of our core ambitions, including achieving the highest standards of excellence for our clients in notably strategic and technically complex cross-border transactions. His appointment also underscores our steadfast commitment to sustained growth in Germany, our strategic investments in key jurisdictions to bolster our pan-European practice, and the further strengthening of our invaluable relationships with our US client base. We’re delighted to welcome Torsten, especially at such a pivotal and exciting juncture for our firm"
Steffen Schniepp, Partner and Head of Corporate Finance Germany, said,
“The need for high-quality German real estate finance capability is growing rapidly as we continue to build our cross-border credentials. Torsten has built a remarkable reputation in his field, indeed, we’ve seen first-hand the value he brings to highly complex, strategic transactions. His presence in Germany as well as his outstanding reputation in PE transactions strengthens our ability, as well as our competitive edge, to meet the most intricate needs of our clients in a jurisdiction that is increasingly central to their strategies. Torsten’s appointment also reaffirms our continued commitment to actively invest locally in key capabilities such as PE.”
Simon Mead, Partner, Real Estate Finance, said,
“Torsten’s experience and reputation in the market speak for themselves. His ability to integrate seamlessly with our London, European and global teams will be key as we continue to grow our real estate finance client base. His arrival significantly strengthens our ability to deliver top-tier work for clients operating both locally and internationally. We’re delighted to welcome him.”
Torsten Volkholz, Partner, Eversheds Sutherland, said,
“I’m thrilled to join Eversheds Sutherland, an equally distinguished private equity real estate practice, which is underpinned by a particularly extensive pan-European presence. The firm's comprehensive real estate and finance services, coupled with its collaborative culture and global reach, offers an exceptional platform from which to support my clients and expand the practice further. I look forward to working with colleagues across Europe and globally to deliver exceptional results.”
His arrival follows a number of recent key hires in the firm’s Corporate Finance division, including M&A partners Pieter Paul Terpstra, Kristof Slootmans, David Smith, and Matthias Kiesewetter.
