Solos sues Meta and EssilorLuxottica in US District Court over smartglasses technology
Solos sues Meta and EssilorLuxottica in US District Court over smartglasses technology
Claims that their collaborated brands, Ray-Ban and Oakley, infringed five of its patents
Hong Kong-based smartglasses manufacturer, Solos Technology, has sued Meta Platforms and EssilorLuxottics in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts, claiming that they copied its technology for their competing wearables.
In a patent infringement lawsuit, Solos complained that the companies' products relied on ‘foundational technologies’, which Solos developed for smartglasses audio, sensing, processing and other features.
Solos claimed that Meta's product collaborations with EssilorLuxottica sunglass brands Ray-Ban and Oakley infringed five of its patents. The company has sought ‘multiple billions of dollars’ in damages from the two companies and a court order to block the alleged infringement.
In 2019, Solos was spun off from Massachusetts-based wearable developer Kopin Corp.
The lawsuit said that Meta employees had “studied Solos’ products, cited Solos’ patents, interacted with inventors, and gained insight into Solos’ engineering work" before it started selling its smartglasses in 2021.
The company added that the revenue from Meta's Ray-Ban smartglasses was projected to generate $10 billion by 2030.
