Babu Rao Joins Religare as Group General Counsel
The leading diversified financial services group, Religare Enterprises Limited, has appointed Babu Rao P as its Group General Counsel. In his new role, he will be based in New Delhi and lead the company’s legal, secretarial, and compliance functions across all group entities.
Before joining Religare, Babu Rao P served as General Counsel at Bajaj Finserv, where he oversaw the legal, secretarial, and compliance departments of the company and its group companies for nearly a decade.
He brings with him over 26 years of extensive experience across banking, finance, and corporate sectors. Prior to his role at Bajaj Finserv, he held leadership and senior legal positions at Citibank N.A. (India), Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co., HDFC Bank, Centurion Bank of Punjab, Axis Bank (formerly UTI Bank), Unit Trust of India, and Pennar Profiles Limited (Pennar Group).
Babu Rao P holds a Master’s Degree in Commerce, a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Osmania University, Hyderabad.
With a strong foundation in the financial services sector, his areas of expertise include corporate law, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), regulatory compliance, litigation, joint ventures, due diligence, and capital markets. His experience also spans risk assessment, contract drafting, and legal strategy, making him a seasoned leader in the corporate legal domain.
