Baker McKenzie Adds Former US Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein As Partner In Washington, DC
Baker McKenzie Adds Former US Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein as Partner in Washington, DC
Baker McKenzie has announced the addition of Rod J. Rosenstein, former US Deputy Attorney General, as a Partner in its Litigation and Government Enforcement Practice Group, based in Washington, DC. Rod will also serve as Chair of the Firm’s National Security Practice, leading a cross-functional team of former US government officials, prosecutors, trade experts, and cyber and data privacy lawyers.
One of the most recognised names in US white-collar litigation, Rod brings over 30 years of experience in complex civil and criminal matters, government investigations, national security, compliance, congressional inquiries, and crisis management. He has represented the US in 23 jury trials and argued 21 appeals, including before the US Supreme Court.
Rod’s distinguished career includes nearly three decades at the US Department of Justice. He has held senior appointments under three US Presidents—George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump—and served as Deputy Attorney General, US Attorney for Maryland, and Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division. His earlier roles include time as an Assistant US Attorney, trial attorney in the Criminal Division, and law clerk to Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg of the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit.
Widge Devaney, Chair of Baker McKenzie’s North America Litigation and Government Enforcement Practice, remarked:
“Rod’s stature and reputation as a leading white-collar practitioner and trial lawyer are unparalleled. His familiarity with government enforcement and litigation, along with his courtroom experience, will be invaluable to our clients.”
Maurice Bellan, Washington, DC Managing Partner, said,
“Rod brings impeccable credentials and a deep understanding of enforcement environments. His insider’s view and practical counsel are especially important in today’s tense geopolitical climate.”
Colin Murray, North America Chief Executive of Baker McKenzie, said,
“Rod’s appointment strengthens our white-collar defense and investigations capability. He is ideally suited to advise clients on sensitive, high-stakes matters.”
In his new role, Rod will lead Baker McKenzie’s National Security Practice, which advises clients across sectors on enforcement risks related to FCPA, AML, sanctions, export controls, cybersecurity, data privacy, CFIUS, crisis management, and reputational risk.
Rod joins the North America Litigation & Government Enforcement Practice and the Global Disputes Practice. His appointment follows a series of strategic additions to the Firm’s disputes, trade, and investigations practices, including Jon Cowley (Chicago) and Justin Becker, Christa Anderson, and Chandri Navarro (Washington, DC).
Commenting on his new role, Rod J. Rosenstein said,
“I am excited to join Baker McKenzie’s exceptional team. With its unmatched global platform and over 4,500 lawyers across 70+ offices, the Firm enables clients to mitigate risk and resolve disputes globally with confidence.”
