Casey Ryan Elected As Reed Smith’s Global Managing Partner

Casey Ryan Elected as Reed Smith’s Global Managing Partner
Reed Smith LLP, a global law firm, has announced the election of Casey Ryan as its Global Managing Partner, extending her leadership for a new four-year term beginning January 1, 2026.
Ryan was initially appointed as global managing partner in March 2023 following the departure of her predecessor, Alexander “Sandy” Thomas, who transitioned to work with a long-standing client of the firm. Since then, Ryan has guided the firm through a transformative period of growth, innovation, and record-breaking financial performance.
“I am honored by the confidence the partnership has placed in me. It is a privilege to lead our dynamic firm through a time of growth and innovation,” said Ryan.
Under her leadership, Reed Smith surpassed $1.5 billion in revenue, its highest to date, while significantly advancing its global strategy. The firm expanded client relationships, broadened its geographic footprint, and invested deeply in talent and technology. In 2025, Reed Smith opened new offices in Atlanta and Denver, two of the fastest-growing business and legal markets in the U.S., and hired over 100 new lawyers in the first half of the year alone.
Demonstrating the firm’s commitment to legal innovation, over 750 lawyers and professional staff have completed AI certification through Harvey, the firm’s primary artificial intelligence platform, reinforcing its mission of future-focused service delivery and continuous improvement.
“As a firm, we know who we are, and we know our clients. Across our global platform, we have exceptional lawyers committed to delivering outstanding service—on every matter, every day—while staying true to our core values of integrity, excellence, teamwork and respect, innovation, impact and giving back to the communities where we live and work.”
Ryan’s re-election has been welcomed with enthusiasm by the firm’s leadership.
“Casey has done an outstanding job over the past two years. The firm is strong and competitive, and her reelection reflects the partnership’s shared commitment to growth, collaboration, and the delivery of exceptional service to clients across industries and jurisdictions throughout our global platform,” said Perry Napolitano, lead partner of the firm’s Executive Committee.
Reed Smith’s global strategy remains anchored in five key industry groups:
- Energy and Natural Resources
- Entertainment and Media
- Financial Services
- Life Sciences and Health Care
- Transportation
“The legal market is evolving rapidly, and we are positioned to thrive,” Ryan noted. “We have tremendous momentum as a firm, and I am excited to lead Reed Smith as we continue to expand our platform and our client partnerships.”
“We have an outstanding team of lawyers and professional staff who are focused on delivering excellence, and building our global brand in a thoughtful and strategic way. We will continue to invest in talent, technology and innovation to ensure we remain industry leaders.”
A graduate of University of Notre Dame Law School, Casey Ryan joined Reed Smith as a summer associate in 1995, and has since served in various leadership roles including Global Head of Legal Personnel, Global Practice Group Leader of the Labor & Employment Group, and Vice Chair of the Litigation Department.
